The Kaiservilla (the Imperial Villa), the former summer residence of Emperor Franz Josef
This Villa is where Austria’s Emperor Franz Josef and his family resided during 60 summer vacations and it has become an important part of Austria’s history. It is where the Kaiser signed the declaration of war on Serbia in 1914, which was the conflict that rapidly escalated into the First World War. From the mid-1850s the Habsburg Monarchy was ruled from Emperor Franz Josef’s study in the Imperial Villa.

Postalm
The Postalm plateau is the largest mountain plateau in Austria and the second largest in Europe.
About 2,000 cattle, horses and sheep spend their summer months on the Postalm’s pastures.

Schafbergbahn (Schafberg Steam Cog Railway)
A trip with the historic steam cog railway from the village to the top of Schafberg Mountain, which is at an altitude of 1,783m, is an unforgettable experience. Zwölferhornseilbahn (Zwölferhorn Cable Car) in St. Gilgen
From the top of the Zwölferhorn mountain which you can either reach on foot or by cable car, there are magnificent views of the surrounding mountains, from the Watzmann and the Bischofsmütze to the awe-inspiring Dachstein.

Höhenwildpark Hochkreut (Hochkreut Wildlife Park)
Hochkreut Wildlife Park is situated in the heart of the Salzkammergut region on a hilltop between Attersee and Traunsee at an altitude of 960m. Visitors can walk among free-roaming wildlife such as yaks, Sika Deer, fallow deer or the Tarpan (Eurasian wild horse) and at the same time enjoy the glorious mountain scenery.

Summer Toboggan Runs in the Salzkammergut region

Freilichtmuseum Stehrerhof (Stehrerhof open-air museum)

Salzwelten (Salt Worlds)
In 1734 the fully preserved body of a prehistoric miner was found in the Hallstatt Salt Mine, known today as the "Man in Salt". In the Hallstatt Salt Mine, the world’s oldest salt mine, you can marvel at one of the world’s longest miners’ slides, a 1,400m² mystical, illuminated, underground salt-water lake and the sparkling chamber of salt crystals.

Animal village
At the small animal zoo at Wolfgangsee, you can admire, stroke and feed animals that are primarily native to the region. All of them live in their own little houses.
There is also a large playground with a selection of unusual games, go-carts and a race track that passes through a tunnel and which caters for both children and adults. There are plenty of children’s vehicles, rocking animals, swings and other playground apparatus, trampolines etc.
Wolfgangsee Advent season
Wolfgangsee Advent is a highlight of the pre-Christmas season and is celebrated every year in St. Wolfgang, the romantic village of stars, in St. Gilgen und in Strobl. The lantern of peace shines over Lake Wolfgang on dark winter nights, enchanting its guests and charming locals and visitors alike into joining in the pre-Christmas festivities.
