The Salzkammergut region spans the federal states of Upper Austria, Salzburg and Styria. It draws its variety of landscapes from its unique location between the alps and the foothills of the alps with a total of 76 lakes, numerous rivers and brooks and striking and very distinctive limestone mountains.
Our properties are located in the following regions: Bad Ischl, Bad Goisern, Ebensee, Wolfgangsee, Hallstättersee and Gosau in the Dachstein skiing region.
The region’s architecture is shaped by a mixture of traditional buildings, farm houses, historical churches and modern buildings, all of which blend in harmoniously with the landscape.
Tourism in the Salzkammergut region
The Salzkammergut region has been associated with the former Habsburg Imperial Dynasty for hundreds of years. The Habsburg family made it their summer destination and it became one of the most popular spa and health resorts in Austria, attracting the High Society like magic.
Today this region of Austria is an all year round destination for holidaymakers due to its enchanting scenery, numerous lakes and nearby ski-resorts. It offers a high quality of life to tourists and locals alike, which is one of the reasons why property in the Salzkammergut region is also seen as an investment in the tourism and catering sector. Bed and breakfast places, guesthouses, hotels, pubs and restaurants away from the main ski resorts are also a valuable asset.
The Salzkammergut region is at the heart of European culture
The Salzkammergut region has been at the heart of European culture for thousands of years. The oldest part of the Salzkammergut region, the village of Hallstatt, has been moulded by a 7,000 year old cultural history of salt: Hallstatt has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for Cultural and Natural Heritage since 1997. Bad Ischl, the “secret capital city of the Salzkammergut region” still reflects the flair of the “k.u.k. Monarchy” (the Austro-Hungarian Empire or “Dual Monarchy”). In St. Wolfgang or Gmunden, you can follow in the footsteps of those who have made legendary films such as “Im weißen Rössl” (in the White Horse Hotel) or “Schlosshotel Orth” (a TV serial). And all around you breathe in the history and the spirit of the age in every bend of the road.
